Call For Submissions
Winter 2009 issue
Must be received by September 1, 2009We accept poetry, photography, fiction, and essay as well as black and white photography.

Now accepting email submissions. Please read further for the details.
The journal accepts poetry, essay and short story. Please have a look about the website to see what we are about so you can determine if your writing is suitable. Some details:
- Poetry: You may submit a maximum of 10 poems.
- Fiction: Submit a maximum of 2 stories. Maximum 5000 words each or you can submit up to 5 "extra short" stories, maximum 500 words each.
- Essay: maximum 5000 words.
- Combinations: Yes, you can send some poetry and short story but please limit the total number of pages to approximately 13. This means you might send one short story of 2500 words (about 10 pages) and 3 poems
- Please use 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper, one side only. Poetry may be single-spaced; fiction, essays etc. should be double spaced. No hand written pieces please.
- We accept entries written in English from anywhere in the world.
- Type your name, full address and email address on the title page along with the titles of the pieces. On subsequent pages, type your last name and the title of the piece.
- Number every page of a poem or each story/essay.
- Include an artist statement/bio with your work
- To send a submission by email: All word submissions must be emailed as a Word document attached to the email to journal@towardthelight.net. If you add a "read receipt" we will respond so you know your email got through. Please do not paste your work in the body of the email - it causes many formatting problems.
- Please note: Due to the overwhelming number of submissions and the short time we have to work in, we will only be able to respond to submissions that have been accepted for publication. If you have not heard from us within a month after the submission deadline, your submission has not been accepted.
- Save money. Save paper. Don't send a SASE - if we can't use your work, we'll recycle it.
Image Submissions
You can email image submissions, please see the directions below.
Currently, the journal is accepting black and white photography for the interior. Please have a look about the website to see what we are about so you can determine if your photography is suitable. You can submit up to 10 samples via email, from anywhere in the world, in jpeg format, 300 dpi, maximum size 5 by 7 inches.
To email your photos click here and state "image submission" in the subject line. Please include your name, contact information, a short explanation of the work you are submitting and a short bio.
Deadlines:
Toward the Light Journal publishes twice a year - summer and winter. Deadlines for submitting your work: March 1st and September 1st. For contest submissions please check the contest page.
Contributors will be "paid" with three copies of the issue their work appears in. As our readership expands, this will change.
